Playing to Win or Playing Not to Lose?
I had a fantastic week that deviated dramatically from the norm, and this week it played havoc with my running. I was traveling in Northern California early this week and spent time catching up with friends (and a little drinking). I did get in three miles before work on Monday which was exhilarating. I skipped my Wednesday run to help my wife get the kids to school when she woke up with a migraine. Thursday night I had a real estate networking event that lasted late into the night (by real estate networking event, please read more drinking and cigars). I also ate poorly all week as I tend to do when I'm not exercising, so I was in sorry shape when I started my ten miler this morning. I kept my mind occupied by meditating on a concept my office managing partner shared with me yesterday - the idea that you have to play to win instead of playing not to lose. I realized that for the most part I do live my life swinging for the fences, but there are also some areas where I refuse to take much risk (I am an accountant after all). This upcoming week I'll be thinking about where I need to step out of my comfort zone. It felt great to push through the discomfort and I started feeling like a runner again by the time I got home.

What a great question to ask ourselves. Leave it to our OMP to come up with that one. :)
